The Sang'ida Foundation & What We Do

The Sang’ida foundation is a non-profit, non-political Community Based Organization (CBO) dedicated to building a barrier free society for Persons with Disabilities. We are focused on realizing equalization of opportunities and human rights for PWDs to live decent livelihoods. Our mission is centred around the “Commitment to changing negative attitudes and perceptions towards people with special needs among the pastoralists community to enjoying equal rights and dignified lives.”

Sang'ida Foundation Safe House

The Sang'ida Foundation is devoted the safety of children with disabilities, providing specialized care and education. It aims to empower and reintegrate these children into their communities while actively advocating for the rights of people with disabilities. Through these efforts, the Sang'ida Foundation strives to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for all.

Livelihoods & Economic Empowerment

The Sang'ida Foundation is dedicated to fostering resilient pastoral communities by forging strategic partnerships that aid indigenous self-help groups in crafting robust business plans. Additionally, it seeks to identify alternative, compatible livelihoods for groups transitioning away from pastoralism, fostering self-reliance and sustainability within these communities.

Disability Rights Advocacy

The Sang'ida Foundation strives to secure human rights access for Northern Kenya communities by promoting advocacy and engaging key stakeholders in documenting and reporting violations. It focuses on training paralegal officers and human rights defenders, organizing awareness campaigns, and empowering indigenous populations. The emphasis extends to collaboration with the Africa Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights and the UN process.

Climate Change Adaptation & Resilience

The Foundation aids local communities in addressing climate change challenges by collaborating with governments and stakeholders to develop legislation, plans, and policies aligned with integrated risk management. It emphasizes strengthening communities, promoting Indigenous Peoples' traditional livelihoods and natural resource governance, and enhancing the resilience and capacity of grassroots organizations to implement effective climate change adaptation initiatives.

Young People Mentorship Program

The Foundation offers a mentoring initiative specifically designed for young individuals, known as the Young People Mentorship Program. This program is tailored to provide guidance and support to young participants as they navigate various aspects of their personal and professional development. Through the Young People Mentorship Program, individuals can benefit from the expertise and experience of seasoned mentors who are committed to fostering the growth and success of the next generation.

Menstrual Hygene

The Foundation runs an initiative dedicated to educating and providing support for girls regarding Menstrual Hygiene. The program focuses on imparting essential knowledge and fostering a supportive environment to empower girls in managing their menstrual health effectively. Through targeted education and assistance, the Foundation aims to enhance awareness, promote hygiene practices, and ensure that girls have the necessary resources for a dignified and comfortable menstrual experience.

The Foundation possesses the capability to conduct research and documentation within our designated thematic areas, including Disability Rights Advocacy, Social Economic Empowerment for individuals with disabilities and women in Northern Kenya, climate adaptation, and more. As a dedicated medical professional, advocate for Persons with Disability Rights, and a nurturing mother to a child with autism, I am fervently committed to enhancing the well-being of children, particularly those with disabilities, within marginalized communities. Hailing from such a background myself, my vision encompasses the realization of dignified lives for these children, ensuring equal opportunities and independence irrespective of their abilities. I aspire to witness their seamless integration into inclusive schools, workplaces, and the broader societal fabric. Beyond my dedication to the welfare of children, I am impassioned about community development and the empowerment of vulnerable groups within marginalized communities. Through my multifaceted expertise, I strive to foster inclusivity and equal access to opportunities, contributing to the creation of a more equitable and compassionate society.

My devotion to the developmental milestones of young children brings forth the very essence of my being. Balancing roles as both a dedicated mother and an entrepreneurial spirit, my commitment lies in supporting children and mothers in arid and semi-arid regions grappling with disabilities. My goal is to facilitate their access to high-quality education, specialized care, and an overall improved quality of life. Through the Foundation, I aim to establish a secure haven for children with disabilities, fostering their empowerment towards independence. Beyond this, my fervor extends to empowering women and the youth socioeconomically, reflecting my unwavering dedication to holistic and inclusive progress.
